Clarity of a Diamond

Diamond clarity refers to the amount of inclusions and blemishes which are a naturally occurring part of a diamond. Clarity is graded based on the amount, size, shape and location of the natural inclusions and blemishes in the diamond. Whether or not these can be seen by the naked eye or under 10x magnification by a skilled diamond grader is another determining factor. The fewer these are the higher the clarity and hence, the more valuable the diamond.

While we recommend diamonds with a clarity of VS (Very Slight); however, we do tailor solutions to the needs of the client.

It is important that diamond clarity is not considered in exclusivity. Rather, all the 4C’s of the diamond must be considered together. In evaluating the best diamond to suit your requirements, it is advisable to make an appointment with us. Fl (Flawless)

No inclusions or blemishes of any sort are visible to a skilled diamond grader using 10x magnification. Diamonds of this type are very rare.

IF (Internally Flawless)

No inclusions and only blemishes are visible to a skilled diamond grader using 10x magnification. Diamonds of this type are very rare.

VVS1 and VVS2 (Very very slight)

Inclusions are difficult for a skilled diamond grader to see using 10x magnification. Diamonds of this type are also rare to obtain.

VS1 and VS2 (Very slight)

Inclusions are noticeable to a skilled diamond grader using 10x magnification. Diamonds of this clarity can also be difficult to obtain in certain sizes, shapes and colours.

SI1 and SI2 (Slight)

Slight inclusions are noticeable to a grader using 10x magnification. These diamonds are a good option for those on a budget but want a decent quality since the inclusions here are also hard to view except to the trained eye under 10x magnification.
